A mind set devided - marketing on Social media sites (Infographic)

LinkedIn and TNS have done an interesting report showing the different mindsets of people when they are on professional networks (LinkedIn) and personal networks (Facebook). It goes on to show that Marketers must understand this mindset divide, and align marketing strategy to achieve the desired outcome.

Social media devideThis global study of 6,000+ across 12 countries and confirms many assumptions we that at the heart of personal and professional networks are differing needs and interests, and different emotional drivers that fuel them. First point to note is that this is a LinkedIn funded report so its not going to focus on any limitations, high CPC or anything bad. 

Having used both sites for advertising it does reinforce the idea that facebook is definitely a place to spend/kill time so don’t expect me to think about high consideration products, focus on humour, branding and pretty pic’s if you want my attention. However on LinkedIn don’t waste my time, get to the point and don’t sell me anything that’s not aligned to my success professionally…

On a more philosophical note, both social media sites lend themselves to wearing masks. Facebook is the old fun loving (or grumpy) you, while LinkedIn is the corporate shiny shoe you. Both are false but it impossible to be honest on both. So begs the question, are you living a life that is more in tune with your "authentic" self or your "fictional" self?
