Brandtology offers two services, the first being an Ongoing Monitoring Service and the second an Online Conversation Brand Audit. Both services track online conversations across a multitude of social media channels.

Consumer buying decision has evolved such that customers’ reviews on blogs, forums, videos and other social media have a great impact on how consumers perceive their brands. According to the seventh annual Edelman Trust Barometer, a survey 2,000 opinion leaders across 11 countries, global opinion leaders say their most credible source of information about a company is now “a person like me,”. In the USA alone, trust in “a person like me” increased from 20% in 2003 to 68% today. Opinion leaders also consider rank-and-file employees more credible spokespersons than corporate CEOs (42% in 2003 vs. 28% today). Therefore, it can be said that traditional online advertizing is becoming more ineffective as consumers increasingly want to hear from their peers.

Companies today have a humongous task of trying to manage these User-Generated Media (UGM). Some companies are at a loss when it comes to handling so many online conversations. The larger companies hire external PR agencies to help them manage these online conversations about their brands. Others choose to assign someone in their organization to surf the web to find such conversations and to respond to them. Usually reports come in once a month or maybe once a week, and usually these are too late to respond in a timely manner. Such ad-hoc monitoring and responding is usually also 9 - 5 limited, which unfortunately the Internet isn’t. When the reports do come, the companies have no idea how these CGM would affect their brand equities and revenues. None of the existing solutions are adequate.
