ADVERTISING & MARKETING There are lots of different means of marketing your product, and most companies are using a combination of different strategies and tactics to find their customers and then sell to them. But what happens when you only recognise the efforts of the final piece that actually led to the sale?
TECHNOLOGY The picture of the snake eating its own tail sprang to mind when talking to a taxi driver today. I was using Lyft a ride-hailing services, to get to work. Jimmy our Taxi driver (I was sharing with a stranger), had his mobile phone front and center and every time we stopped i noticed he as flitting between, Waze (planning the best route) then over to Uber and back to Lyft (planning his next pickup)
ADVERTISING & MARKETING One of the big buzzwords of the last decade has been "Mobile First" apps like Instagram (quickly bought by Facebook for $1b) didn't even launch a website. In a Presentation last week at Social Media Week London Facebook explained why they have now moved beyond thinking about mobile first to concentrating on being "Video First".
ADVERTISING & MARKETING With a rise in numbers on Instagram to over 5 million monthly users in Australia and rates of engagement 18 times that of Facebook, Instagram has become an avenue more and more Australian brands are participating on and looking to help sell goods and services.
However, the challenges that brands face participating on the platform is how do they convert their followers and engagement into sales?

VIDEO You can skip this ad in 5 seconds! A statement that sums up the reality of our great leap forward in advertising over the last decade. 10 years ago we were talking about the death of intrusive advertising, it was to be 'single customer conversations' not mass consumer broadcasting. The promise of digital and particular data was going to make all ads 100% relevant. So what happened?
ADVERTISING & MARKETING There is no one-size-fits-all content marketing template as how many channels and in what format you need to document your strategy is unique to your business. INDUSTRY TALK Five years ago an art director colleague stated to a developer, "the biggest problem with marketing agencies is everyone is a f$£*%g creative expert". This was in response to unsolicited 'creative' suggestion the 'developer' had made. The art directors statement received tacit approval among the senior management at the table, a reaction i suspect would be shared in many agencies. Big Mistake!
INDUSTRY TALK I'd like to start by wishing everyone a very Happy New Year!
And what a start to the year it has been. Wherever I turn recently I am being bombarded with news that many of the UK's largest retailers enjoyed a roaring, and in some cases, record Christmas trade. The likes of Next, John Lewis, Marks and Spencer, Gap and House of Fraser are just some of those reporting some mind boggling trading figures.
Whoop whoop and high fives all round because after a year of doom and gloom it is both a joy and relief to hear such marvellous success stories. And the even better news, especially if you work in digital, is that the Internet played a defining role for most of these businesses.
SOCIAL MEDIA If you dont use Twitter personally, you shouldnt be running one professionally. That might sound harsh but if you were a professional singer people would expect you to listen to music in your spare time! So likewise, if you have no passion or interest in social media get out now as the first rule in social media is that people recognise passion and can spot fakes a mile off.
INDUSTRY TALK Not wanting to cut a tall poppy down and add to the one way traffic of bad news on facebook but whats clear is that the site is losing its early adapters, the 18-35 year old demographic. In fact its losing 13-45 year old demographic in its home market which could be a barometer that the early promise of social is failing consumers and they are ready for the next installment whatever that is.
