DIFFUSION is a global brand agency with outposts in Sydney and most recently in San Francisco.

Working directly with boards, CEOs and senior operational and marketing executives, DIFFUSION delivers innovative, actionable ideas and brand strategies that provide clear direction and a recognisable point of difference.

DIFFUSION was established in Sydney in 2002 by Renay Ringma and Stephen Byrne.

Prior to founding DIFFUSION, Stephen held senior marketing roles in the NSW Government and worked as a strategy director for brand agencies Revolution and Nucleus in London. Before returning to Sydney he was global brand strategy advisor to the Duke of Westminster. He has provided high level analysis, vision and positioning, segmentation and modelling, strategic brand planning, management and direction to senior management to a wide variety of corporations, organisations, businesses and startups across multiple sectors.

A trained editor and journalist he has taught, published and presented extensively in both the UK and Australia on brand trends, marketing, and communication issues for a wide variety of publications, conferences and forums.

In 2004 he established one of Australia's first brand blogs, DIFFUSIONblog, which is recognised as one of Australia's leading marketing blogs. He a regular commentator for Marketing Magazine Australia and in the US for AdAge's Global Idea Network.

Internationally he has worked with include AMP, Bolero International Buhrmann nv, Cable&Wireless, Coutts Bank, GKR Group, Grosvenor, Henderson Global Investors, Mesania Europe, Planet Intra, Prudential Corporation, Verio, Roche, Radiant Knowledge Systems, and Unilever.

In Australia he has worked with the Audant Group, Australia Post, Australia Network, Broadcast Australia, Children's Cancer Research Institute of Australia, Elders, EP&T, HMG, National Hire/CAT Rental, Liberate Technologies, NetReturn, PrintSoft, Total Recruitment Group, University of NSW and VicUrban.

Stephen holds a Masters degree in Communication.
