Mobile search company Taptu has released a detailed report showing that the future of the Mobile Web is likely to be dominated by cross-platform browser-based mobile web sites - rather than apps built specifically for iPhone, Android, or any other platform. Taptu calls the former "the Mobile Touch Web," which it defines as "Web sites created for mobile touchscreen devices, with finger-friendly layouts and lightweight pages that are fast to load overcellular networks." Rupert Murdoch's killer quarter has emboldened him, and his plans to charge for his content. Speaking on the company's earnings call, he said "Content isn't just King, it's the Emperor of all things electronic." Two weeks ago, we ran an excerpt from a piece the Village Ventures partner Bo Peabody wrote for the Washington Post about how Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks would always be lousy businesses. Bo brings an interesting perspective to this argument, given that he founded and ran community-site Tripod in the late 1990s. Bo's piece generated many questions, from us and others. The iPad has been this week's media darling with active discussion about the device's merits, a look at how it fails to encourage AR innovation and of course, this morning's announcement of a developer fund. Although it's exciting from a consumer standpoint, between the iPhone, Android, Blackberry and now the iPad, application developers have their work cut out for them. While consumers may flock to the new tablet, the thought of locking more developers into the purgatory of the Apple approval process is one that few will celebrate. View full article

British Sky Broadcasting expects to be awarded upwards of 200m of damages after winning a High Court battle with EDS, the US IT outsourcing company, over a sales pitch for a multimillion-pound contract to build a customer service system. View full article
BSkyB alleged deceit, negligent misrepresentation and breach of contract by EDS. It is said to have legal implications on how all technology contracts are offered in future.

Google revealed a plan today for co-founder Larry Page and Sergey Brin to sell off some of their company stock, with the end result that the pair's voting power will drop below 50 percent. The news was revealed in a regulatory filing disclosing a plan that Page and Brin made last November to sell off about 5 million shares each. It's described 'as part of their respective long-term strategies for individual asset diversification and liquidity.' The sale, which will take place over five years, will decrease their voting power from 59 percent to 48 percent. View full article
